| Question about cleaning cartridges

Hello!
I have a question concerning whether Reiningungskassetten. In the manual of my Canon XL1s is that we should use them after approximately 20 hours of each recording. Some camera operators, however, say that the camera itself that indicates when a cleaning cartridge should be used. Which is correct?
Also: with Canon cameras so you should not use Mini DV cassettes, which Sonyherstellt. If then the Reiningungskassette rather not synonymous of Sonysein?

I was of the mandatory use of cleaning tapes
