Frage von Bauzi:Hello,
It would be handy to have an external hard drive for my video material. The choice of a hard drive is not so simple. Above all, I am able to provide not sure how much power these plates at all.
I am working with 720p 30fps Lagarith encoded material. It would be nice if I hinbekomme synonymous decent work speed for 1080p 60fps material Lagarith * 1 720p 30fps/60fps lossless must be inside on each case.
The perfect way to some questions:
1. How important / relevant is the cache of a disk for DV editing?
2. I have heard that USB 2.0 is not capable of the performance of a 7200rpm hard drive to use. Therefore 5400rpm range for USB 2.0
3. FireWire 800 can exploit the full performance of a 7200rpm hard drive, or as many synonymous 5400rpm?
4. Even for quite wealthy 5400rpm digital DV editing?? = |
Thanks in advance!
From the price performance ratio, I would have the following records in sight:
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=571
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=600
What are the hard disks would still recommend meet my expectations.
* 1
In my estimation, however, is the utopian desire for my calculator or hard drive. At least, I must be able to switch to 1080p 60fps MJPEG clips so that I can at least work fluidly. Render times can remain calm s.end up with the lossless material.

USB 2.0 interface to work as you can simply forget. There is no harm if the plate is for compatibility for data exchange, etc. has USB 2.0, but otherwise ...
FW400 is about twice as fast in practice, such as USB 2.0, FW800 comes on 60-70MByte / s
Optimal is e-SATA, one can imagine synonymous, since the plate then with its native interface is so controlled as synonymous internal.
Ideally, one would buy a record that has USB 2.0, FW800 and eSATA. Are indeed quite common.
Rough guide: USB2.0 - 20-25MByte / s FW400 - 35-40MByte / s FW800 - 60-70MByte / s, eSATA> 100Mbyte / s depending on the plate.
The Calculator upgrade later if necessary with eSATA is certainly well worth it if you really work on external disks, and they used not only to transfers.
The disk cache is a record that worked not as a system disk, but only for the video stream is used is irrelevant, at least in the context of what can be bought s.Platten today in fact.
Be damaged if the computer has cut a total of several plates s.unabhängigen interfaces, is distributed over the material. So separate panels for the system, swapfile, Media, Video.
RAID is again quite naturally ne other category.
5400 plates need not be considered for DV editing. Sowas one takes only if there are other criteria that are important, warmth, volume, power consumption, 2.5 ", whatever.

If you can time your buy a new calculator (or have) the adjusted synonymous stripping (Raid0) since you are prepared for everything that accrues

HAHA! This is an idea time. Would be a solution for the home, but the solution does not make me truly mobile. The thing seems to be chunky, but the idea is good in all cases.
5400 plates need not be considered for DV editing. Sowas one takes only if there are other criteria that are important, warmth, volume, power consumption, 2.5 ", whatever. I think when my current laptop, the internal plate of the Bootleneck at around 5400rpm. Which is divided into a program and data partition. For now, I'm a USB 2.0 external of me to take at least a little relief to the main plate.
I think for my laptop I buy myself a PCI Express card with e-SATA. In October, I'll start with the SAE in Vienna s.im Area Digital Film & Animation and then I get a Mac Book included in price. Unfortunately, no one has told me if FireWire 800 is in the book there. Well as long as I am not a Mac Book Pro, unfortunately I've only get FireWire 400, but at least something.
Thanks for your help. I think I'll buy me the 500GB My Book Studio Edition of Western Digital to <100 ¬. As I am sure then prepared for everything.
I might just as synonymous one 3.5 "external hard drive and buy an older outside of my knowledge. Anyone for a cheap case with e-SATA, FireWire 800 and USB? The things that I found have already cost nearly or even more than the 500GB My Book Studio of WD.
Most of which I have found only USB or USB and was able to e-SATA.

So my recommendation is clearly synonymous FW800 or e-Sata.
I always work once again as DIT with RED and this data used a laptop to an internal e-Sata port and has added benefits of a Express 34 card with two e-Sata ports. Thus come through two separate controllers for Laci boards to just 80 to 90 MB / second.
I was asleep most of the two external panels s.The with each other to create 100Mb/Sekunde.
It should be noted that when the plates are full of slow times can only come to just 60MB/Sekunde. Thus FW800 is even the same speed, most, but here is clearly the limit of 70MB/sek.
This feel the FW800 cable is as much more stable than the already very rigid E-Sata cable, but since there seems to be synonymous better.
These are the FW800 times more stable than the E-Sata Male and put "more easily found.
Please pay attention that but synonymous with the external hard disks, as there are even branded products such as with E-Sata Segate of the just 36MB/sek to come.
Until now, I am very satisfied with the LACI plates synonymous when they are very expensive, but I give the 1:1 price s.den next customer.
This I have myself an external enclosure in which I can run two Sata hard disks in Raid 0 or 1. This housing can I connect via FW800 or e-Sata again s.einen laptop.
In the near future I will be synonymous to get me a case where I can run four drives as Raid 5 or 10.
Generally, I advise you rather drive housings in which you can then obstruct your own records. Thus you can have a full hard drive again just to expand () safe packaging and storage s.einem dry place and use the next case.
Another advantage is that you can decide what you verbaust for hard disks and therefore can then add a 5400 or 7200 plates.
As an external enclosure for RAID I use the Maxtor MR 35DUS2 for single disk, I have a Pleiades case.
Of the MyBooks I think nothing, as always a small proportion of the plates to vibrate so funny and the casing is made of plastic and can therefore not enough to derive heat.
It is important to observe that the hard disks or the controller in the housing at high heat slower.
Antwort von carstenkurz:
Hands off of this simple docking stations. Intended for temporary use during continuous operation is guaranteed due to the mechanics fimschigen loss.
There are high-quality strapless removable disk systems, eg of Akasa. Since the plate is really solid mechanically locked in the housing and can be removed anyway, within a split second.

MacBook has FW800, at least if you're not just an old model'll get turned on, and short-time the UniBody garkeine FW had.
MacBook has no ExpressCard slot, however, even the Pro versions under 17 are not. "As you drive better with a plate that have USB 2.0, FW800 and eSATA. Gibts example, in a good quality of Seagate or Buffalo.

- Carsten I'm just guessing hands off of the external Segate disks to create the E-Sata, despite only partial 30Mb/sek and USB 2.0, the rate goes down sometimes to just 20MB/sec.
Because a customer had wanted three (old) of Segate hard disks and no money to spend on new and used, I had it was very disappointed.
Was still annoying to which there was a module for USB / e-Sata, and one for FW400, so you only had to replace the module before you could run the plate sE-sata. To switch on the plate just anyway to standby mode from which it without pulling the Male / reboots are not again get afloat. Furthermore Segate absent in the FW800 port, which has become almost standard already.
Look at the ratings at times synonymous Alternate to the external Segate disks, since even the MyBooks come off better.
It may well be that there Segate has improved, but after the bad reputation of the plates Segate synonymous circulating in the IT industry.

Not so true. The normal Mac Book under 1000 ¬ has only FW400. Have extra checked. Gnahs. Maybe I should ask the SAE people if I can pay a little something more, and then equal to a Mac Book Pro war.

We'll see what I find out the test on Alternate. Personally, I'm a fan of Western Digital and the My Book series. I should schaun times where the vulnerabilities lie of the series.

I have 2 WD MyBook Studio 1TB are available with both.
They look great, are really very low, providing all the interfaces (FW400/800, USB2.0, SATA) and last but not least, the parts sauschnell. The built-up hard disks are the better of WD.
When I hang the plates s.einem iMac via FW800.
Due to the various connection options, the hard drive / enclosure that is future proof and use a long time.
The only drawback:
The case does not open properly.
Of course it's been, but it can leave marks.
The recent Studio 2 can be opened easily carry around a hard drive change.

But I said, Thou shalt not an old model you can turn on ;-)
This 'white' MacBook is already the only remaining 'MacBook'. Die with FW800 are formally all MacBookPro.
You get the most out of the MacBook / Pro already, if you replace the internal HD equal.

I must say the Buffalo DriveStation Combo4 fits me absolutely in the price / performance - ratio:
