I've recently bought a Canon XM1,

Yes ... even that is not:)
This is one of the unfortunate problems with the XM1.
With too low, you can indeed live, which can subsequently increase uu.
But the overdrive is very bitter, have a few recordings of concerts with the XM1 made.
Top picture but horrible sound. That's why I had bought myself a reasonably Micro. From there the problems away s.waren.

But I wonder what you want dazwischenhängen an XLR adapter? Ordinary microphones there are synonymous unbalanced, ie for consumer camcorder with mic input latches.

In my previous posting, I had expressed myself rather ambiguous in this regard. Meant was this: we do not get an overload if one uses a suitable microphone and the audio control on XLR adapters are not too far. Then the automatic control of the camcorder was the result may not be too much vergeigen. ;-)
The same is not true for synonymous when the microphone is suitable for the particular shooting situation (ie, a microphone with jack without XLR adapter).
For example: Is it very loud, then take no sensitive microphone with high output levels. That would be a guarantor for clipping. Take instead a rather insensitive Microphone and the sound is included free of distortion.
