WinXP system jerky especially when watching movies
Frage von Tom~~: Februar 2006
Hello,
after I installed a TV card in my WinXP PC and various TV software had been tested, I've noticed that playback of an AVI in Media Player with running one time anything but smooth. Toward the end of the film sequence, the images are only "slideshowmäßig play. This jerk is sometimes synonymous with regular shows misfire, if I move the mouse pointer on the screen evenly. An integrated data capturing is not synonymous, of course, possible. I have the hard drive thoroughly tested for viruses, defragged, and recently expanded the TV card - everything did not help.
Also an approximately 23 MB driver update for my NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 has brought nothing. I uninstalled the update again, because another program in the startup with the system tray just the start of the computer also delayed. In another forum would have an IDE driver update fixed the error. In Device Manager, I find the entries for IDE ATA / ATAPI controllers, Primary IDE channel and Secondary IDE Channel VIA Bus Master IDE controller, but have no idea where I could now download which drivers to update.
The video sequence, which at that time was running smoothly still jerky on playback. Has anyone any idea what could be the problem and how can I fix it?
Gruß, Tom

Aloah, Perhaps the problem is quite trivial. If everything has worked before, then it may indeed be that now a program running in the background, which greatly affects the performance. Schau doch mal in the Task Manager after, what's going on everything. Turn off unneeded Programs time off and then try it again with the video. Possibly yes loads a program in the background down a lot of data. How much RAM do you have?

Hi Lawrence, thanks for the quick response.
Unfortunately, it is not so trivial. Run in the background, no significant other processes. On playback, the CPU usage will increase exponentially at first of about 34% to 100%.

Then it must surely be even s.WMP itself? Have you ever tried a different player or to update the player?
Antwort von Tom~~:
PS: 512 MB RAM (Hint: How much memory of the calculator has seen in the system properties: right-click the My Computer icon> Properties, General tab.)
On WMP, it was not. As written, the stuttering seemed synonymous with simple mouse movements - and also in other players. I had the latest DirectX contain old version and the graphics drivers again de-and re-installed - no result.
Finally, I've tried various System Restore point (Start> Help and Support> Computeränderugen with System Restore to undo "or" Start> Programs> accessories> System Tools> System Restore) and was with the reset to the last month successfully.
Problem solved - Cause unknown ;-)
