In Final Cut Pro one can transcode on the fly to low-bitrate (and low-quality) Photo-JPEG -- instructions at http://www.2-pop.com/articles/2001-08-09.html courtesy Philip Hodgetts. The old ProMax SoftDV codec for Mac Quicktime 4.0.3 and earlier also had a low-res "offline" mode, but this codec does not work properly with later versions of Quicktime and has been discontinued. Short of that an analog-card capture would be the only way I know of these days, unless you want to spend the money on something like a DigiSuite DTV or LX with MAX that can transcode to lower-bitrate MPEG-2 from a 1394 input on the fly. Cheers, Adam Wilt PC DV codecs - Adam Wilt > I'm using 6.4 and I'm not upgrading as I hate the 7/8 interface. Be aware that in DX6 you are stuck with one of the poorest-quality and worst-performing DV codecs around. While I can't say the 7/8 UI is any improvement, its DV codec is both faster and far better.
