Black Light tips? - "Perry Mitchell" From:Jan van der Meer Has any of you got experience with filming these certain stage scenes in theaters using so called blacklights? As you know these lamps high light fluoriscent colours. Camera's we are going to use PAL VX2000 and VX1000 shutter basic 1/50, no testing possible at the moment. Do we need special filters for best results or W/B or special custom preset settings? Expect problems with auto focus? Any help is most welcome. (links on this matter?) dv-l digest: May 08, 2002 - Jon Burkhart It's you and me against the world, Steve. At the moment I'm using Storm Edit to cut a two hour program shot with two cameras under very difficult light and sound conditions. It's going to look good. I could not have done it nearly as well with any other software. Aloha, Jon Burkhart Jon Burkhart wrote: > > "I use Storm edit. It's very fast. A frame gets recorded as two fields. It's just that in FMM, the two fields of the frame are captured at the same time: field 1 from the G channel, and field 2 from R & B (or vice versa); which are then munged together in the frame buffer for recording as a frame of two "full" fields simultaneously captured. > -- gets its 240 > lines by: > > Line 1: Green elements from Row 1 > Line 2: Red/Blue elements from Row 2 > ... > Line 239: Green elements from Row 439 > Line 240: Red/Blue elements from Row 480 > > This assumes that the 1/2-pixel offset is only horizontal. The 1/2 pixel horizontal shift is hardwired into the CCD placement on the block. I'll be reposting it on my own site one of these days but I won't have time to do so for a couple of months, probably). Cheers, AJW [Any bizarre line breaks courtesy of OS X's Mail.app. Think Different!] IBM drives - Jon Burkhart Sad, but true Bertel. I was also a big supporter of IBM drives, but the 75 Gig has cost IBM many, many friends. I have several other size IBM drives that have given outstanding performance. But the 75 Gig I had, made in Hungary, bit the dust. IBM replaced it promptly with another 75 Gig also made in Hungary. I have had no further problem. This is certainly not the first manufacturer to run into a bad batch of drives nor will it be the last. I too, just got a Maxtor 80 Gig that seems to perform well. It's a pilot project begun in one news bureau. The camera of choice is the Sony VX2000 and the PD150. They were editing in the bureau on an avid media composer and have just gotten a new G-4 version of it. In the field they're using an Apple Titanium G-4 with Final Cut Pro. When the network wants to use local footage, they are able to capture Betacam SP which is the format most of their affiliates still use. Aloha, Jon Burkhart NBC Goes DV Continued - Jon Burkhart No, it says DV is indeed ready for prime time. I've always felt it was technology considerably better than Betacam SP. It was scoffed at by many professionals. Now it has become reality because of the economic necessity of trying to hold down the cost of news gathering. NBC will save millions of dollars a year in shipping cost for the smaller, lighter equipment, PLUS the producers will now be doing some of the shooting. It's fine, as long as all you're concerned about is analog I/O. The digital data, however, now has too high a black level. See http://www.adamwilt.com/DV-FAQ-tech.html#Setup for details. I'm still sitting here with my little 'ole dual PIII 500mhz and know I gotta take the plunge someday. Aloha, Jon Burkhart "Bruce A.
