As of today, there are two "simple" ways to do this (semi)automatically
that I know of:
1) The Blackmagic codec used by the Aja Kona (uncompressed SDI) capture
card on the Mac now has an automatic 3:2 24p extraction feature. When
you digitize or import a clip, you tell it the first A frame, and it
does the rest. As the Blackmagic codec can also handle DV footage for
playback, you can still capture via FireWire. [Caveat: the Aja folks I
spoke to at the Snader show a week ago *thought* this should work; no
one had ever asked them about this particular workflow before. Your
mileage may vary).
2) Boxx Systems sells a Speed Razor NLE for Panasonic's Varicam footage
(720 line 60p footage with 24p 3:2 pulldown), which reads the pulldown
flag and extracts the 24p imagery. I have no idea if they have a
standard-def version waiting in the wings to handle the DVX100's
footage, but they might!
Cheers,
AJW
