The official limit for standard cables is 4.5 meters, or about 14.7 feet. Thus a 15 foot standard cable is officially too long. It *may* work, but wouldn't you feel safer with a 12-footer? However, there are several vendors of longer distance cables. Some claim that using heavier gauge wire and paying attention to connector attachment is the key. Videonics makes "DistanceDV" cables with additional filtering built into each end of the cable for 10, 20, or 50 meter lengths. Cool stuff. Unless the vendor states that the cable is designed specially for longer runs, I'd stay under the 4.5 meter limit. Sonic Foundry's VEGAS VIDEO - Adam Wilt I'm playing with Vegas Video a bit. It has its own capture application which uses (or at least, can use) an OHCI FireWire card. It has no problem capturing in Win2K using a SIIG 1394 card connected to an XL1, and it's happy to read Quicktime DV files off of disk. I'm pretty sure it writes type 1 AVIs (haven't really checked yet), but whether it can talk to the DTV's 1394 or read/write Matrox AVI's, I can't say.
