Best 4:2:2 formats for archive and interchange? - (2) Canopus unbundles codec, effects with DV Booster Pack please HELP - Premiere 6/Mac G4 problem Titling Secrets? 2nd hand VX-9000? - "Perry" Basically the VX-9000 is a VX-1000 that takes big cassettes.(PAL only model) It is still a competitive camera but rather short of sensitivity by modern standards. This won't matter too much if you are shooting mostly lit scenes or exteriors. In some ways the picture is actually better than the VX-2000. As to a 2nd hand camera, the main problem is drum head-life. You should reckon on 1000 hours maximum use before a replacement is needed. You might well find that a replacement drum is uneconomic, so you should definitely price the job first with your local Sony service shop. Of course you may be lucky and have one that has had very little use. good luck Perry Mitchell Video Consultant http://www.perrybits.co.uk Best 4:2:2 formats for archive and interchange? - "Perry" Geoff Amthor posted: >DV is a 4:1:1 format< only in 525, over here in 625 it is 4:2:0 >MPEG-2 is a 4:2:2 format< sometimes! As used in DVD, MPEG-2 is 4:2:0 >Beta SP is 4:2:2< It is an analog format so cannot have a digital sampling space! Sorry to be pedantic, but we may as well get these things correct! Can you make this ratio business more clear.I would really appreciate if some one could help me at this.< BetaSp cannot correctly be said to use 4:2:2, since this only applies to digital formats. 4:2:2 refers to the sampling ratios (of Y:Cr:Cb), based approximately (for historical reasons) on the NTSC subcarrier. The luminance is actually sampled at 13.5MHz. Most digital formats have a common sampling rate between NTSC and PAL (720 per line) so the NTSC is actually oversampled compared to the nominal requirement. This gives an approximate bandwidth capability for luminance of 6MHz, and DV (4:1:1) has an approximate chroma channel bandwidth of 1.5MHz. In 525, BetaSP will have the analog bandwidths of approx 4.5MHz for Y and 1.5MHz for Cr,Cb. Canopus has unbundled its DV codec and is now offering it as part of > the DV Booster Pack, which works with any Premiere 6 setup, including > basic OHCI systems. Great news. As NLE vendors rush to the OHCI standard with the provided OS support, their users are being stuck with the slow, poor-quality Microsoft codec. Canopus' best-of-breed codec (one of the fastest and highest quality codecs around) is a very worthwhile upgrade. Cheers, Adam Wilt please HELP - Premiere 6/Mac G4 problem - Adam Wilt I decided to reinstall Quicktime and Premiere... Now, whenever I try to > re-open my project, I get a type 2 error. If deleting the prefs and restarting doesn't fix things, try increasing the memory allocation for Premiere: Get Info on Premiere, select "Memory" in the dropdown list, and bump up the maximum memory setting a few tens of Megabytes. Cheers, Adam Wilt Titling Secrets? - Adam Wilt Probably another newbie question. I have added some very simple Titles in > Premier. White on Black. > > The Title was created in Adobe Photoshop and is Aliased. After rendering and > sending the title sequence to DV I play it back on TV. > > Around the Edges is some white that almost looks like it spilled over. The spillover is an artifact of the DCT compression used in DV. As mentioned, softening the type slightly with a blur filter or other low-pass filter is the best way to minimize this "mosquito noise" and get good-looking titles.
