NAB-hit: professional editing system LightWorks is Open Source

Another one news event that we would really classify as a first April Fool's joke. After the company's acquisition by EditShare is the Lightworks editing system Open Source! Most likely Lightworks do not know at all. Is not surprising, because something like you just do not buy online or just at Media Markt. Rather, the next largest film studio-equipment supplier in the neighborhood. Thus, the editing software has not only been honored with Oscar and Emmy, but has already helped many famous Hollywood movies on a large scale. Among other Bruce Almighty, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 28 Days Later and Batman Forever. This is also not a salient command line tool, which has been years, no longer developed. The technical data sound at least as fresh as the newly introduced Premiere Pro CS5 version. But the functions themselves (professional color correction, node-based effects editor, GPU support, multi-cam editing, vector scope and Waverformmonitor) read like an editing program of the 1000-Euro class. Just incredible. The business model by Edit Share lies in the fact that sell server infrastructure for major studios behind it to try. And that is why we rely on a wide dissemination. Also wants to establish a marketplace for third party developers, the plug-ins or drivers for PC-cards can then develop and sell there. The download of the program itself should be possible for the third quarter's free everyone.
