The problem
There are two ways in which material may be previewed on the Premiere engine, either in optimal or in a customized quality. On a well tuned system though, AVCHD-material is often played less jerky in optimal quality than in a lesser quality setting. While Premiere CS4 lets the user define the optimal quality setting as default, Premiere Elements insists on playing the material in an automatically chosen (and lesser) quality. More often than not this leads not only to visible blockiness but the playback also stutters extremely. Unfortunately this behaviour can not be changed within Premire Elements, so the editing of AVCHD material is unnecessarily uncomfortable on many systems.
What does this tool?
This tool looks for a special Premiere configuration file with presets and defines in that file that Premiere Elements should always preview AVCHD-material in the highest possible quality settings. After a restart of the program the preview will be played with these changed parameters (and thus always in optimal quality).
Can I undo these changes?
YES and NO! If our tool is started a second time a backup of the original configuration is restored. This way the changes are undone and the file looks like it did before the patch was activated. But since Premiere Elements keeps many settings in a cache and also seems to save some settings whithin the project files, the program might not go back to its initial preview behaviour in a given project. Once a new project is created though, everything should be like before.
That is why we STRONGLY advise not to try out this patch with an actively used project – be sure to create a new project for testing first!
WARNING
We can not guarantee that this tool will work on your system, and although we have taken the trouble to create a backup of the initial config file so that it may be restored: This tool is USED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
