Frage von Gast:Hello!
I've used for a 3-hour movie in total about 80 GB of data (avi files). These files I would like to burn (as few) DVDs, but so that I may once again may be used as raw material.
How can I compress them?
Greeting
Rita
Antwort von Stefan:
You write a little bit about the technical data of the AVI files. How is the image size and which codec (video compressor was used)?
80 GB for 3 h video seems to me a lot, but I can only compare it with DV video. Since a picture size of 720x576 and would result in approximately 13 GB / h to 40 GB total.
Add: If you already are working with DV AVI and the remaining 40 GB of unused scenes are, then look to see if your video editing program a "Project Trim" has function. Adobe Premiere for example, has something. Since the used scenes and set how much "meat" of the unused scenes are copied into a new project. But this does not help if you want to back up all the scenes or have too little space for the trimmed Project.
Good luck

720x576 true synonymous approximately 13GB per hour. There were 3 cameras. Of whom I have ever rausgesucht then what I wanted to use.
I am working with Premiere and search times for the trim "function. Actually, I wanted to pack the entire avi files. Is that synonymous?

Hello Rita!
Trimming is definitely ready for the tough times well.
For backup, I would
MJPEG used as the codec and the audio stream into
mp3 . encode
Then you'll get down about 12 GB to 4GB.

Hello Rita,
not all compression is suitable for subsequent Editierungswünsche. Check the chosen way of you before you back your recordings in a digital dead end send.

If your camcorder has DV-in, you could re-dub the videos without loss to a DV tape. Later editiieren is thus synonymous problem.

Radio Yerevan: it is, but you do not save much space. Your video files are so "messy" (full information) that a compression program) can compress summarized almost nothing (.
What Nightfly proposing is a bit of quality from the video and through away from the audio will be transcoded with by other lossy codecs.
This is a matter of taste.
I would rather stick with the original codec (DV?) And the original sound. Once, for reasons of quality - the original material should be original. And once, because you have to replace after the re-coding all relevant files to be backed up cutting project.
But if I'm honest ;-) This Backupperei I made 3-4 years ago. Meanwhile, I'm happy when a project is finished and the relaxed format of the data partitions.
Good luck

If it is not the case of uncompressed DV files but AVI: Free codecs like huffyuv or MSU can compress the video quite well lossless.
DV files s.sich can actually barely or no longer make small losses.

We consider whether we could take place as planned for archiving Professional Disc (23 GB for about 35 euros) to not just use external hard disks. It is cheaper per GB.

I do not know whether the price still makes a big difference, but for pure backup would still suffice as synonymous slower hard disks with 5400 revolutions loose. In addition, there maybe a USB hard drive enclosure, so that one must not always be to unscrew the calculator, and the thing fits.

Then I would make me no longer working on important data.
