Hello Michael. 25P progressive Picture and 25i (50i old spelling) is is an interlaced picture. Both images are interlaced in the data stream as "geflagged", except that both PF Fields issued a joint data base, by (i), but a temporal offset of 20 ms. Synonymous 25p if you have a choice, this is the best solution.
Previously we have used such format as "sF" or "PSF" Because have transferred most of the technical equipment in the transmission lines was still relatively low data rates with only half the image resolution (interlaced), you could see in this a solution, the transmission rate, specifically to reduce the SDI interfaces to. At the same time, however, could take advantage of a progressive image that uA through the easier calculation of motion vectors, the required bit rate for encoding to MPEG2 by approx. 25 to 30% reduction. Today, there is no rational reason to use such format.
