Hello :-)

I carry myself with the thought my first MiniDV camcorder to buy and have a problem:

When I look at, for example, the technical details to Amazon Watch, says it is often vague "Recording format: MiniDV. I know so synonymous, uses nothing but me. In the camera descriptions which I have read on the Internet, is almost never given the format in which the camera stores.

I would like to nightmares such as "MPEG-cameras" to avoid, so I afterwards no problems when cutting / compression on the PC did. So do I search for a MiniDV camera, in AVI format film / stores.

What if I have a camcorder descriptions detect whether the camera in AVI format?

Good evening

"Recording Format: MiniDV" should mean that a DV Camera stream on the tape writes.

Whether this is when you capture in the calculator then into an AVI or QuickTime container comes (there are container formats, ie, the video codec is something minor .... just so incidentally), depends of the software and possibly of their settings ab.

So it is quite okay with the MiniDV.

Since I am shooting at yes but no "software" needed (but only during the transfer to the PC) is not entirely clear to me how I know that the camera in AVI format records?

Strictly speaking, it is not "AVI format" (of which there are many), but DV-AVI. That makes all the mini-DV cameras with PAL standard resolution. Among the new devices with higher resolution (HDV) is the matter differently.

In principle, therefore:

Mini DV Tape -> DV-AVI format

A DV camcorder is not in AVI format, but a DV stream. When transferring to the PC, the software used to ensure that the DV data into an AVI container will be packed (or the egg apples just in a Quicktime container with the file extension. Mov).
(Slightly limping) Comparison: On an audio CD are neither synonymous nor WAV AIFF files, but technically a solid "groove" with no usable file system. If you have an audio CD s.Computer in their original format rippst extracted each individual software titles and packaged them into WAV or AIFF.

To capture (read) would be the Movie Maker completely satisfactory, since it is only synonymous with a copy of the DV data to a DV-AVI einpackt. As for a reasonable post but SOWISO other programs should be used, then you can capture so synonymous equal.
