Hello, I want to digitize my VHS collection at last (about 250 cassettes) and ask me if I grow my Canopus ADVC 300 or the more expensive the cheap Terratec AV 350 MX will. The former supposedly improves the image quality of the hardware and second ostensibly increased the quality of the image on the Magix software.

Hardware components are preferable in general software components. I would also recommend you the Canopus 300th Himself had made so great experience. Although, unfortunately, was a worthy investment, but one buys such a device is usually synonymous only once. Many however, buy it only to their VHS collection to digitize and sell it again after that, the wars still going on well, as they are wild. There is also the possibility to rent the unit synonymous week.

Seba111, I like the recommendations of
JMS Productions synonymous have frequently been such, the need here is not.
But the following idea: The cost of the transfer (250 cassettes!) Might be worthwhile only if it is important (own) images. So to "unique" material.
The original tapes of course you keep it, so synonymous is no space savings.
If you buy cassettes or not it is worth the effort of the transfer in my opinion. Better initial purchase (in choice) as a DVD / Blu-ray.

If you buy the Canopus as the hardware, you need no extra plug-in card, because it connects to the device via FireWire cable s.den PC. And one FireWire port should have every PC, the synonymous ALDI PCs.
I want to do any advertising for Canopus, but I may add that the final quality can be better among other things, if you benutzst the Canopus converter, if only because that is less heavily compressed. Canopus converter save in DV-AVI format, the slot solutions à la Pinnacle etc and save the same in the more compressed MPEG-2 format verlustbehaftenden.
Primarily relevant for the quality is a clean and neat player. So you should check that your DVD recorder is cleaned (head drum is clean) and possibly synonymous use good cables. An SVHS unit would also have the best solution, since one could then use the S-video output and one is (at least in the Picture) not composite (RCA) dependent.

I think the Canopus work via FireWire the thing of Pinnacle via PCI card then the s.die BreakOut Box is connected.
So I plediere for either FireWire or PCI, with nothing of the USB devices I hold Perso for some. Test nothing.
What has blocked your Medion PC as a board I do not know, maybe he even has already installed a FireWire connector onboard.
So as I said, the products of Canopus Perso should be very good. I've not yet worked with them.
I had only the old Dazzel the first hour (PCI BreakOut Box and then the Pinnacle Deluxe version, but have never regretted the purchase bought on Ebay later additional.
