must annoy you again!
For several days I was a little busy with the matter codec and must admit that I'm probably too stupid ;-) I just do not understand it. Ok, that a codec is the responsibility of a format eg AVI to MPEG compression, I have buckled. How does that look when capturing? Here are just 1-1, the data stored on the hard drive was no preference for a system or be converted by a codec in a different format. Can I get as capturing in VirtualDub and then edit them in without any problem with the Magix formats with no loss of quality and expect to have?
Perhaps someone can even pity me and enlighten me :-))

to your question:
So ... You have a camera that takes mini-DV format .. (minidv an uncompressed format and is) in this "raw quality" very good. If you are via Firewire eg dubbing case you create a kind of '1to1 copy "in the same quality (we recognize s.den vast amounts of data - several GB for a few minutes) on the PC. Stop! And now the crucial question is ... What I want to do with the material or ... medium on which I want it now "immortalize"?
As a rule, on a DVD! So the material means of procuring suitable codec to DVD size is minimized rendered /. This happens eg with the MPEG2 codec. Eg something like this could take synonymous Virtual Dub ... or any other editing program. It can be used to integrate various codecs, of course, synonymous to a Schnittprgramm /. After rendering you now will get a DVD compliant MPEG2 file that can be burned to DVD or find erstmal in an authoring program further use. Importantly, if there will be a video DVD, it still convert VOB files to "." This now play almost all video editing programs automatically.
Do you want to use another medium eg Divx (to get it to a CD, you're on a DIVX codec ... for one VCD MPEG1 codec etc. everything clear?

What you have written, yes, I understand. I have become synonymous understood that there are different for the compression of MPEG codecs synonymous. maybe I'm on the line, but then why do I need a DV codec, if the Rohmateriel is uncompressed eh?

material is optimized when not coded because the ergebniss "will be worse" than the original ... so would minimize correctly.
This is ONLY with an encoder and one MPEG-2 codec with. There are applying cutting programs, which includes an encoder and a codec or codecs installed on your PC. I can integrate multiple codecs into my cut programs, of course, not simultaneously use ... but I had not written synonymous ..
