Frage von P²:Hello,
actually thought I already have a professional in computer matters, but in terms of matching or DV editing hardware, it is probably somewhat different.
I briefly explain my situation and then make my question:
I have a server get cheap - 3GHz P4, 1024MB DDR400
with ASUS P4C800-E board
2 IDE controllers
+ 1 controller alternatively IDE Raid or IDE (master and slave)
+ 4 SATA connectors
A 160GB SATA disk is already inside.
I have here are:
2 pcs identical 40GB Seagate 5400
2 pcs 20GB IBM Deskstar
Well I thought I'm doing with two 20s s.RAID a striping for performance reasons where I store the operating system and have fast 40GB and no parity. (This is not important s.System me, because I will make a backup once it is ready to set up and stable)
The 160er SATA I wanted a video cutting plate and use the 2 40s s.IDE1 to store the finished files and s.IDE2 DVD drives connect.
Does it make any sense?
Or would it be better to use a more SATA disk to buy for the operating system?
The above parts are already available.
And I will soon get another 160er SATA disk later.
Furthermore, I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Pros 9 - and a 80GB ATA133 Samsung SP0411N 30GB 7200rpm 11ms here.
What HDD hardware is concerned, I know I am unfortunately not with the performance differences of the individual parts.
Maybe someone knows of so-called out the plates and can help me correct my system to configure before I begin with the installation.
Wants to achieve optimal performance.
A XP Home license would also be present, but n.welches system would s.besten.
Because the cutting with the notebook is not that the truth! Except it is on hold!

A couple of 20 GB or 40 GB disk as a raid? The break again in a few months away. Apart from this, how do you want the Raid setup?
What does the "Raid", anyway? Double Exposure (not exactly) and "full speed" for DV ...;)

It works safely, test installations have already druchgeführt.
Raid 1 as striping thinks constantly on 2 plates is written and distributed synonymous of 2 is read.
Thus, access time and increased utilization of the entire disk.
As I wrote above, it is less about parity in the Raim than the performance.
Thus, it is two-fold risk, but only for the operating system - then yes I've saved it again with new aufzuspielen plates.
Let me my question again, perhaps a different way:
What are the performance differences exist between RAID1 with 5400rpm IDE, IDE, 7200rpm, SATA of the access times, etc. ..
Is perhaps a SATA disk anyway faster than IDE Raid 1 with 5400er plates?
Should I better 7200er IDE RAID without the OS for use ...
