Hello,
My father has an old Digital8 camera. This analogy I can (via RCA, with additional Dazzle Video Converter) and synonymous digitally (via Firewire; means connecting with Sony iLink) with the computer.
Long story short:
The camera records on Hi8 tape. Is it (now analog or digital, there are so synonymous in both digital and analog output available)?

In your case, the camera features a digital on analog tape, for Video8 and Hi8 are analog cassette tapes. Digital8 cassettes would be the right one for your camera. Of course, the material on the Hi8 tape is still digital, but many say that the analog cassettes are not designed for the wide range of digital recording process and it could result in image artifacts. As long as we dip it in no other, or none at all, because: The PC stores the incoming Datnenstrom 1:1 into a DV AVI file (; approximately 13 GB / hour). This file can be wonderful to work and why would you want to convert anything. It costs only waste time and quality. At current disk prices should be synonymous discussion but an emerging space (;"... MPEG takes up less space ") to nip in the bud.
Only when the entire work is finished, you can convert this back into an MPEG file or, if possible, directly from the editing program to create a DVD.
