Hi,
I would like to digitize about 30 S-VHS cassettes.
That is the first time, store and forward looking with the best possible quality on hard drive.
Lt. my research suggests itself as probably a ADVC300.
Now may I ordered a Canon HV40 (miniDV) and read that convert these synonymous analog sources.
"If an analog source in the video port of the HV40 is connected, turned on the AV-DV conversion and connected the camcorder via FireWire s.den computer starts the digitization of the video material.
Before I make a wrong decision and invest many hours of work, I hope to experience / know-how.
My questions:
- Are between these variants
1) S-VHS -> ADVC300 -> PC hard drive
or
2) S-VHS -> HV40 -> PC hard drive
expected differences in quality?
Is an investment for the ADVC300 zus make sense?
- In what format should I save (resolution)?
A subsequent processing is planned.

Is an investment for the ADVC300 zus make sense? Well, the ADVC-300 you just stop the possibility to seek a comprehensive image enhancement features, such as noise reduction, or you can finely adjust the image signal by various regulators.
The DV-Cam variant containing the video image is simply looped only, you have to stabilize thus synonymous to the possibility your picture (the ADVC-300 is indeed an internal time base corrector).
Normally, you should make image optimizer and improvements always s.analogen signal because there the best results are provided. Once the material is digitized, you can indeed still be synonymous filters and the like run over it, but later removal of jitter (which should catch the time base corrector auto) in my opinion is very difficult.
