The chip size is no preference, it counts, what is being recorded. Some camcorders have true 1920x1080 chips and draw on the synonymous. About SonyEX1. Others have 1920 to 1080 chips and draw on 1440x1080. Like HDV always. Others have some chips and characterized only in 1440x1080. But even these are at 1440x1080 display to 16:9 auto equalized. In your 80s you TV is not noticeable. You would not even s.einem great LCD monitor to see a difference.
