The Project is not exactly new. The idea would be to be very up to date (if now synonymous contradict sworn GIMP fan myself).
Unfortunately, they are not exactly "fast" when it comes to new releases.
The current version "1.4.3" (September 2008) is based on the GIMP version 2.4.3, which has itself been three years under his belt (which is currently 2.6.11 of 3 10th 2010). And that is even GIMP for a long time, which can be more time for a release.
My impression is, therefore, that it really does not go next really synonymous if, on the home page "Happy new year 2011" is and he promises that he will this year bring a new version.
Really bad.
