I used to short out the battery, display folded and / or On-Off. Then it worked again.

Is it worth the repair? Fortunately I never had the Canon support claim, you can hear them but unfortunately not very positive.
I use the camera now almost exclusively for on my crane with external monitor - because the quality of the action has surprised me, but always very positive, it would be really bad drum.

Well, we are probably fellow sufferers. I, too, is the HV-20, unfortunately, fell 2 times already - from the desk on the floor (wooden floor with carpet), because the shoulder straps dangling and I intervened with the knee, and she has the same problem as your camera.
Now I make sure that the belt, cable, etc. always nice to hang down the back.
I, however, this problem only recently, during the fall even longer ago, and therefore made no connection.
I have it again just tried. The display shows normal. On my camera this problem occurs so far only rarely.
I assume the viewfinder is not synonymous with you affected?
