Hello together
I make a movie, what should be processed more than 30 hours of footage, some HD, some non-HD. By that I ever have enough space for the footage and editing, I need new hard disks. Now, if my questions: How much space do I need? I should be internal or external (; USB?) Plates and take what would be a clever backup strategy for it?

30h at 25Mbps = 330GB
2x500GB as Raid 1 via USB should be enough, but 1TB is currently about as expensive.

Well, "slowly converting" one writes only with an "m" and USB 2.0 makes approximately 30-40Mbytes / s, which is not at all slow. Just because SATA 1.5 or 3Gbits creates, that is still far from that penetrate the hard disks remotely synonymous in this region.
USB 2.0 is the lowest common denominator with good performance that is anywhere. There are external Raid 1 systems, both E-SATA, and USB as synonymous-have Gigabit Ethernet. Ultimately, all this is a question of price ;-)

I even got the USB stack in the Linux kernel largely done, and therefore knew me a little of that principle ;-) I can understand your criticism, but Firewire 400 is indeed much slower than USB 2.0 (; 480Mbit / s). Only Firewire 800 would be faster, but will of cheap mass storage adapters hardly supported.
In addition, the proposed 1-RAID configuration will cost some performance synonymous, so that she would be looking for probably the real bottleneck.

Firewire 400 is still slower than USB 2.0 (; 480Mbit / s). In practice, FireWire has 400 of lower data rate than USB 2.0, despite the better performance and less CPU load generated.

Ok, first of all thank you for the many constructive responses. What would a combination of an internal and works for a USB disk for Backuppen from?
In that case I would buy a 1TB SATA disk and install, and are working on this record. Furthermore, I might kalle70 of the proposed Western Digital MyBook Studio 1TB, resulting in both USB and Firewire as synonymous eSATA, which I would then make each every few days a backup.

I would generally not save the footage on the system disk. -> So internal SATA.
Then footage of the project file and from a backup and it can not actually happen. -> WD Studio
