Drop2DV (described in the linked thread of Bernd) is a useful, very simple tool that quickly and with good quality. Everything you need to do is to Mpeg2 file on the icon in the Dock of Drop2DV to draw (For open manually, the handling is just about possible to the terminal). I have however not yet with Intel Mac tested. Another program would DIVA (with more, but for the mere conversion mp2> DV settings really uninteresting, and not so fast).
The Quicktime Mpeg2 component of Apple can be loaded directly. Taste, I think, around 20 euros. Worth it.
