I wanted a Still Image with a star-Effect which, but since I do not have Photoshop, I am forced to After Effects to use.

That depends ..... if you work with CS3 you can create a shape layer to create (as in Photoshop) the shape of a star has. In the properties you can then all of the properties of the star edit.
In AE7 gibts Shape Layers yet ... there you will find the presets in a preset star. " This preset creates a layer with a mask in the form of a star. The of any adjustments you need, but "by hand" directly s.der Mask Making.
