funny: after all, what I have read so, it was said to be the camera noise through an external micro tends to reinforce! So I thought I could avoid this with an internal "fur carpet protection.
Honestly, I do not know the impact of mono and stereo on the final result (DVD). My camera has stereo, I was satisfied with the sound so far I would stick with stereo.

The problem is that the operation noise transmitted directly to the microphone, as synonymous nothing good is a windshield, an external mic on the other hand, depending on the design better or worse, more decoupling of the camera.

The question was raised just stereo or mono, because most of the external mics are mono, but there are synonymous Stereo Mics, eg. At the Mic, I would save eh not too much, because sound is still bad bad sound :-)
What do you want to record with the mic? For such an atmo noise mic is well placed for Language is a Handmic, Ansteckmic or fishing better.
