Many Batteries have integrated a (thermal) protection. This opens and closes the circuit again automatically. This will be a statement that with you right after that no "juice" come anymore.
For larger Batteries shorts are very dangerous: I know of a burnt vehicle reportage! A shorted battery 12V 26Ah (Lead Acid) became heated so powerful that it eventually burned.
We can not have enough in this respect of caution. Stuck open battery terminals of great Batteries for safety from pre-shipment. Take care when fiddling with tools, etc., especially for short circuits.

Yes, with powerful Batteries is not about jokes. As a child I once accidentally shorted battery one (45 Ah).
Fortunately, the wire size was not large enough to maintain the short circuit current over a long (!) Time. The cable burned up within a few seconds. Mir and the battery has happened.
