The fastest that you can find in this class, the Sony PD170/VX2100 or narrowly behind PD150/VX2000. You are not getting quite as cheap as a XM1, but superior in all respects. The Canon is not outstanding in terms of light low light, the successor XM2 something better.

VX1000/VX9000 were not quite as bright as the later models, but how big the difference is exactly, I do not know. Although I have rotated with all these cameras, but never simultaneously or under identical conditions.
