At first I was very impressed of Ubuntu Linux 6.06. I already knew SUSE Linux and Mandriva Linux, Ubuntu Linux seemed to me more clearly arranged and easy to clean. A good alternative to Debian Linux for everyday use.
Because we film in our leisure time, it was of course the crucial question: How well Ubuntu is suitable for
digital DV editing? My Conclusion: I've tried
movies and was very disappointed. The quality is very bad, that was steinzeitmäßig worse than VirtualDub, incredibly pixelated and bad in quality, synonymous in the sound very convincing, and without the least user-friendliness.
We cut our movies by default with
Windows Movie Maker version 2.0, which is adequate for our needs, but "Movies" is just of "Movie Maker" still light years ... - There should probably go to Linux a few years into the country until they make sense under Linux and sophisticated can cut videos.
This experience was decisive for the decision to remove Ubuntu from the device back to the Ubuntu restricted spacewise for Windows XP and return in the future only, and only use Windows XP.

I have just installed for this purpose now, times two Ubuntu ...
If you already want to have an overview, in our database is a freeware Linux category.
To me there is still missing Cinelerra, which I will soon be time to test extensively on Ubuntu.
Currently s.besten but certainly Movies for small things and Blender for somewhat larger projects.
Jahshaka seems to me to be still not developed enough.
As far as my experience (which I can hopefully bring you up to date soon ...))
