it was reported here in the forum again and again about the film look. Here you can find (with the search function often) contributions, which is "Use the search function". Yes, yes, it is still a bugbear ... the search term "film look" takes you but synonymous with really interesting contributions to outline the differences of Film and Video and the technical background.

So understand film is perhaps a very ordinary standard work for film technique, but for film look, it does not lend itself particularly. What I would recommend for you is:
Visual Style in Cinema - actually written in German, it is concerned with the design of various resources (camera + editing) various film eras, very easy to read, concise (approximately 200 pages) ISBN 3-88661-226-0 (Paperback) . In relation to film look, I know no better.
Movies sense - a damn good book, but more that the film deals with cognitive psychology, so why not what is used as and when, what was used as. Still highly recommended ISBN 3-85114-478-3 (Paperback)
