MainConcept announces the release of a new version of the H.264 Encoder v2 known. It now supports Intel dual-core technology for the new Intel Pentium D Processor and the Intel Pentium Processor Extreme Edition. With a processing speed of up to 4 threads, the Intel dual-core CPU architecture and MainConcept encoder to enable optimization on the part of an approximately 25% faster video encoding (based) on internal testing. Today's available version of the standalone MainConcept H.264 Encoder v2 supports Dual Core and Hyper-Threading technology. Quicktime is too expensive ... in terms of practical application of h264 currently undefeated leaders. The encoding goes well, the files are tiny ... And as far as the speed it has been SOWISO little comparison. But just because it's 499 euros will be faster to pay? With $ 29 you can legally encode with Quicktime synonymous. Somehow I have the feeling that to be the only of MainConcept 'ne tech demo and is contrary to "major" Licensee as Manufacturer of greater Softwarepakaten or hardware devices is made. But this is only my very subjective impression ...

I do not understand why they explicitly write something about intel, I think, several threads are multiple threads, is not it?
should also bring a benefit for all smt and / or smp systems ...

Yes, but only Intel (as far as I know has) processors with dual-core technology, it's so still you have only one processor, but he can handle two simultaneous threads, behaves like a multi-processor system. However, this must be supported in software.

So slowly, synonymous AMD has a range of dual core processors (AMD Athlon 64 X2, the new Opterons and of the new FX60), which are much more economical and work at least as efficient and powerful as those of Intel.

I was surprised synonymous, that only Intel was mentioned. Unless it is used, a special instruction set, only to be found in Intel's processors - which I do not know (but which in turn means nothing ;-).

According to CT, the newer Intel and AMD models are binary compatible, so no difference - more likely that only Intel MainConcept mentioned because they have a special MArketing deal, like Adobe, which always synonymous in the specifications only mention Intel processors - which are Such companies, however, cut his own flesh, the AMD processors sold more rapidly than Interl and who knows how many insecure user instead of an "Intel-only" program to buy another share rather than its processor?

@ grovel:
what you are describing is as hyperthreading.
dual core (as the name suggests) and simply means grasping that, on the one that houses so almost on a chip, 2 cores.
there must be software-supported next synonymous nothing, except that it's just an application with multiple threads must be ...

And now there's dual core of intel, amd, ibm, sun and freescale's has at least announced (MPC8641D) oh and poor synonymous ...
