Mattebox one is a sun visor. This prevents stray light into the lens, and think of the image quality (affecting in particular the contrast).

A compendium is extendable (bandoneon similar fold with guide rails) and generally a filter-and mask holders, but in conjunction with an appropriate mask under one Mattebox synonymous.
