Hi!
I recently had an old Hi8 camera "excavated". They (PAL HITACHI VM-H39E) is from the year 1993, and the last recording dates from 2002, and exactly where is my problem:
I tried this same recording on the television play. The Camera I closed in S-Video. With two cables (red + white head) I have concluded to the sound. BUT: The picture is distorted, the sound stockige, partly, the film is black and white and sometimes you only see "snow". I have the tape once before and played back, which is nothing helped, then I changed the S-Video Male against a head of times with yellow, but the quality remained the same.
So hab eich another tape from 1999 made, same problem. Boiling with rage, I started on a blank tape record a short film. Through the Viewfinder, which is a small LCD screen inside the camera is directed, the picture was quite normal synonymous during the recording. Also on the television picture was good. But when I returned the tape desks and I wanted to see again the symptoms!
My question: What is there to have?:
a) The read / write head of the camera is defective.
b) The magnetic tapes are too old and are no longer magnetically (?)
c) The speed is not right, that is too slow and therefore can not be
more properly reflect what would be so that the engines to
Play / Record (The tape of the play) are broken.
d)?

Hi Flo,
the possible sources of error are so old (!) Camcorders numerous. I would first look after Recording-/Wiedergabefehlern and possibly to the head drum and the drive clean. It could equally well be that the camcorder's long life has not tolerated (movable parts "rust a") and that he only needs a little movement until the drive is working properly.
Last could obviously synonymous an electronic defect in the recording / playback is available. Perhaps you are still a different (working) Hi8 camcorder available, with which you look at the pictures of the problematic test camcorder can play back.

How and with what I clean the head drum and the drive? In the simplest case, a (modern dry-) cleaning cartridge. In the case of the presence of isopropanol, a suitable tool, tact and oil-free air compressor can be synonymous drive manual cleaning, which is fixed dirt would be mandatory.

No, the Camera was during the time course, no tape! Is it possible to exchange the rubber belt, without the camera to a professional to bear? I am not prepared much in them to invest in order to make up and running again! Can it be that the rubber straps are ausgeleiert and the Kopftromel are dirty?
