Frage von Xframe:Hi,
which of the two video formats, is better suited for DV editing?

Condition for the same video resolution, bit rate, interlacing, etc.
Editing Software: Premiere Pro CS5 or video X3
Thank you for your tips!

h.264 is the general name of the codec
AVCHD uses h.264 as a framework and sets certain standards.
The bottom line is all h.264 - but AVCHD is definitely determined as compliant. h.264 in MOV container can because of the many possible encoding profiles cause problems when cutting.

How about actually h264AVC in MP4 container .. that makes me really has no problems ...
Antwort von Bernd E.:
... The Panasonic AVCHD 1080p50 format ... This special format is not AVCHD, because it is not the specification, and Panasonic as synonymous differs quite correct: 1080i50 is officially listed in the 700-series as "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD - Standard accordingly)," 1080p50 however only as "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264".

In 2010, Panasonic introduced a new lineup of consumer AVCHD camcorders (HDC-HS700/HDC-TM700/HDC-SD700) with 1080-line progressive-scan mode 50p/60p (frame rate depending on region). While this mode is not compliant with current AVCHD specification, it uses the same compression schemes for video and audio, packaged into the same container and stored in the same folder as AVCHD-compliant files. The "AVCHD" 1080p50 thus not the equivalent of Panasonic AVCHD specification.
