You need a Firewire cable. (ILink/1394, as it is always synonymous names)
Night mode works with a built-in video light.

Nacvhtmodus gibts twice in the 690, either via a button s.der Page or on the video settings there (where it sporty, snow, etc. there), I think it says "low light".
In a dark room so you can raise the brightness a bit.

I'm not an old Canon 8xx / 6xx or 7xx longer here, at MV 9xx it's all over the menu and without Easy Mode / Green Square earlier.
