Hello,
after my DVP-8 is already 3 years old I looked at the GZ-MG505 purchased. I noticed absolutely no difference in the quality, this is the new even bigger and they can no longer be stuck in your pocket.
I have a swivel and zoom out of my balcony made with Tripod. With both in automatic mode, then I have the videos uploaded to the PC and on DVD in a video re-rendered.
I noticed no difference since I had thought for 3 years of progress and a little more money because you notice something.

Comparison with the MiniDV (frames) vs.. hard drive (image-compression groups) are a bit the proverbial comparing apples with pears.
The HDD camcorder operating principle has no chance of video images in the same quality to save as a DV device. Especially if you are not the highest quality grade (ie, the shortest recording time) selects.
You Would you a MiniDV camcorder for the same money bought, it's definitely a difference was seen.

If I applesauce from apples and pears from Birnenmus do, then I have in both cases, Mus, but still made from apples and pears. The fruit is supported by the Vermatschen (here: Compress) are not really comparable. ;-)
If you both want to compare your camcorder, then you need the unedited and unaltered original recording them. Otherwise, do you a mix of camera, codec (s) and compression (s).
But times another question: How had you hoped for?

The development is at least next 3 years. But at some point the technology is mature and exhausted. If you want to have something better, you have to have to change and professional stock so much more money to invest.
