Hello!
With the XL-bayonet, I have no experience, because I use a different adapter for my XL2 used. I had Sigma Lenses used up to 400 mm and the quality was pretty bad. Color bleeding and weak colors made me a lot to create. Since it is a fixed 400 mm lens was, I had stability with no problems. A good tripod, however, is a must! A problem with such lenses is to find the motive. But sometimes you have to just take a lot of time, then opens it synonymous.
Generally, I think that you will only Canon - Nikon Lenses or should use, since only a cheaper compromise.

I use the EF s.der Tele XL1S my favorite is the 70-300 L IS of Canon.

Tamaron or Sigma lenses I have none, only L IS Lenses, regarding this as you can, I do not give tips.
I films / surfer pictures and animals (mostly from the peak) - is among us but the "standard" XL Lens very good and usually ranges from completely. of the 300 mm telephoto Objektis I almost never use, most are 70mm abselut ok.

PS. Lens, the largest I ever had on it was a 800mm, so you can be the man in the moon watching more synonymous not ;-)
