I want to convert a bunch of different AVI's (DivX and Xvid) via TpmgEnc2.5 into SVCD format mpeg2. These are all AVI's video footage (4:3).
In related tutorials (eg http://www.dvdbrennen.com/index.php?module=dvd_tipps&func=display&pid=16) is said under Should Setting -> Advanced -> Source aspect ratio type one "in most cases," 1:1 VGA. A vague indication. And the aspect ratio after encoding will appear synonymous often distorted (eggs Koeppe or moon faces).
Now my questions:
1. What does one wear when under "Source aspect ratio"?
2. How can we be sure that the aspect ratio is before and after encoding EXACTLY the same? I do not want to create again and try to leave my subjective eye, and possibly erroneous results.
3. What is the difference between "Setting -> Video -> Aspect ratio" and "Setting -> Advanced -> Source aspect ratio"?
Thank you for constructive help Steffen

synonymous maybe you'll find something useful here ...
What are the source aspect ratio must be adjusted so that the picture behind s.Television looks exactly like the original AVI file?
Nevertheless, thanks for the reply,'ll investigate mal ...
Antwort von Markus:
When shooting in 4:3-format, the pixel aspect ratio is closer to 1.07 (: 1.0666 ... / SD, PAL), the image resolution at 720 x 576 pixels.
In the case of SVCD, but looks different, because the Resolutionin is reduced to the width (480 × 576 pixels). Thus, the pixels must again be significantly wider (you can easily figure out yourself ;-)
