The customary high-speed USB version (USB 2.0) provides 480 megabits per second, standard Firewire 400 Mbps (Yes - there are synonymous faster Firewire versions ...) For DV and HDV 25 Mbps range.

It is much more mundane: On most camcorders, the USB-only contact of any state to transfer photos or videos in webtauglicher resolution (320 x 240, etc.) thought. Panasonic supports probably synonymous with normal video transfer via USB. USB causes the same task, but a much higher CPU load than the same process via Firewire. The USB protocol has apparently a much higher administrative expenses.
