Hello Video Fans
purely interest sake: I'm always annoyed me about these oft comparisons of VCD with DVD. I find totally useless, because:
DVD features the complete video signal, ie synonymous, the full 576 visible scan lines (interlaced or progressive natively). The horizontal resolution at best, just half PAL resolution. In addition, image noise.
The stores VCD MPEG1 with 352x288 and thus synonymous only half the lines of resolution, ie only one field at 25p. In addition irrestarke Artekfakte!
So I would convert VHS to VCD, I would have a complete field and thus
half the
information here! Right?

The comparisons are certainly not entitled to technical correctness, but rather the expected Quallität / Resolutionanschaulich make.
The key message is: A video CD can not be with the Quallität a DV tape or a DVD to keep pace - and that is always expected - and technically speaking, the VHS signal higher dissolved, however, possibly synonymous noisy.

I thought this format anyway just for a kind of interim solution as a DVD
Brenner nor an infidel have cost money.
Meanwhile, you can no longer recommend. Similarly, the SVCD.
For VCD or incompatibilities with the various players, Resolutionetc miserable.
Where is the difference / advantage of VCD vs.. DVD?
The necessary steps are exactly the same, the CD will cost a few cents
more. That's it.
So why?

The VHS-VCD-Comparison among the many allegations that someone invents times, and then of many other people (so-called journalists synonymous) unaudited basis, either from their own thoughtlessness or lack of expertise.
The worst is that the veracity of knowledge reproduced with each passing reduced. The inventor of the VHS-VCD comparison may be noted that a comparison is very superficial. The, it has depreciated, the notice has already been forgotten, and eventually it was to a simple equation reduced VCD Quality = VHS quality. Who sowas (ab-) writes, apparently has never viewed a VCD.

Otherwise I, as a video CD and CDi came out, ever wonder who buys the stuff and looking at. In Asia, it seems for some karaoke significance. Here in Germany, I can only recall that the disks in the computer stores more or less successfully offered. And many formerly Multimedia Adept has anno expensive Money 1993 for an MPEG-1-accelerator card for the PC purchased ...
But I must confess that I recently times with 'nem current MPEG-1 encoder and the video CD format rumgespielt and have found it acceptable, so long as not too much in the picture moves. We must stop synonymous always remember that the video data rate of 1150 kbps as everything else is abundant.
But clear: Serious applications for VCD I knew not synonymous. Yesterday had the pleasure of "Casino Royale" of Blu-ray with the DVD to compare - because it occurs almost the DVD back in the ton ...

If I'm on the basis of image quality between VHS and VCD have to decide, I would prefer the VCD. The Picture is quiet, not wrinkled, old tape, no dropouts in the sound ... for the then still a good time trying digital video into the living room to bring.
