With what freeware / shareware video converter software have already made good experiences? What characteristics are important and which we must respect if we downlädt corresponding software?
I have before me a (; buy hardware) multimedia player that is my archived SVCD / DVD / AVI happening s.Television DV files. Also AVCHD (; h.264) clip to be played over it. I'm still in the midst of the selection phase, but I already noticed that not help but come, predetermined, converts video files into other formats understood by the multimedia player synonymous.
Maybe even someone on the converter SW a few tips.

PS: I read a supplementary question - that is now synonymous DivX H.264 compatible. Is it enough to download this codec and I, converts it directly - or do I need a separate Convertierungsprogramm which then the codec used? (; Do not know exactly how this works)
Noch ne supplementary question: there is DivX and Xvid - what is (the difference, if any) and what to do with which of the two better, or better not?
