Hi folks,
I own a Steadicam SonyVX2100 and a system to 4.5 kilos. The VX weighs 2 kilos so good. For a rotation, I Steadi times through Z1 and rotated, which is heavier than 800 gram - the stability was dramatically higher.

A Steadisystem is a 3-mass system: Camera, Battery, Monitor. Under normal circumstances, I have my camera so the top, bottom and Battery Monitor. Tripod Balance. Dynamic Balance. Gimbal or the length of the post set up on a Droptime of 2-3 seconds - ergo: the focus of the system is down.
Now I do mass add up. 2 kilos. The Gimbal be higher, ie closer to the camera and set the Gimbal to be extracted. Thanks to the Droptime is the focus below.
I add the weight of 2 kilos down, the next Gimbal down time. Also here: Droptime cause: Focus on the bottom.

No, I do not think that would increase the inertia, if you add up the weights. This hast thou then surely more important than the top down, and the whole system loses balance.
But if you bottom adding more mass, the whole system a lot of carriers, because many of the mass below keeps everything in balance ...
