Hello, I was planning to switch in the near future on HD video, but is there to cut my G4 Powerbook probably did little more wealthy (because I have trouble playing the sole of HD) video.
Now I want to buy me a G5, but I wonder which of the current three models (2GHz, 2.3GHz, 2.7GHz) because s.besten suitable or s.welchem Model HDV - (real) cut is easily possible.

Hello Martin,
I would recommend the 2.3 GHz model. Has the best price-performance ratio. In any case, the 2Ghz Mac because that has less slots (possibly important if you want to install video cards such as the Decklink someday) Otherwise, take the speeds of between 2.3 and 2.7 Ghz is not too much. Here you'll find some performance tests:

As long as you edit a video track HDV soltte be no real problem. The rendering of effects, of course, takes longer than normal DV (clear).

Hi Rob, Thanks for the quick response! Good that you have reminded me that has the 2 Ghz model less slots, I've totally overlooked.
What is the big advantage of a video card? So far I really have always played via Firewire and I fared well with it ...

Hello Martin,
The reference to the Decklink card is especially true for the Capture of analog video (Beta SP) or a professional digital format via SDI. As long as you stay in DV and HDV, you need no such card. Firewire works as well. Otherwise it looks like when you make a lot of animation or compositing and need a high quality (professional) Preview on a control monitor. As I say, more interesting for professional users.
Synonymous Remember that the Mac community is currently very tense waiting for an update of the G5s. It is not clear whether Apple will wait until late summer of next year with an update, or if not previously nor is an update on dual-core processors of IBM. If you need a Mac right now, there is nothing against a purchase. Otherwise I would wait maybe a little.
