"Winamp Media File" (= Winamp File) merely says nothing about the file type. This simply means that your calculator is set by default to the Winamp to play this file type. It can convert AVI, MPEG, WAV, MP3 or whatever. But the file
endung provides information about the file type. The ending is not by default in Windows to see (thanks, Bill), but actually of enormous importance.
Therefore (for XP):
Start> Control Panel> Folder Options> View> clear the checkmark next to
Hide extensions for known file types. Then from such
Filename: File name. Avi or
file name. Mov or
file name. Mpg or
file name. Wmv or
file name. Wav or
file name. Mp3 or what ever synonymous. And only then do you know which file type is present.
Synonymous, and only then do you know of what type of file from you (as in your case) in.
Mpg or.
Avi convert like.
