some time ago gabs here once a posting with the above subject. In this it was a matter that an XVID file of unknown origin can not be right to play. It looks quite large colored blocks in the Picture.
The author of the posts has solved the whole by the XVID codec version 0.2.3 installed and used.
I have exactly the same problem and wanted to ask how I can get this ancient codec yet? Unfortunately, I could not find anything via Google.
Also I would be interested if you can find out with whom XVID codec, the film has been ecodiert (perhaps appropriate for my movie, so the version 0.2.3 not only 0.xx). Among the file properties you can see only the name but no number XVID.

Download GSpot (Google, open free of charge) and file it. GSpot shows with what has been encoded and whether the codec installed on your PC.

I have used the GSpot on the film. It shows Xvid. I already knew synonymous.

Now I have searched some and it synonymous solved. You have to use very simple and perhaps the only FFShow BSPlayer. As you can see very well under BSplayer filter, which codec is being used. The next step is to adjust what the FFShow and taking Miscellaneous Configuration on the hook for "Old Xvid Bug" set.
Voila!
Think times there are many other people, which this can be very helpful tip about the mosaics / blocks removed.
