The basic principle is simple. You need a video of the scene with the Darsteller1 and a video with the Darsteller2. Background of both scenes should be the same (camera on tripod, preferably the same illumination and camera settings).
Video1 is your basic track. Moreover, a mask (Engl. matte), the only Darsteller2 from Video2 shows. The masked Video2 is combined with Video1 to Endvideo with the two performers. The mask is a SW-Picture with black areas and white areas. From the Video2 is Video1 over what's in the mask is white (normal setting).
Normally, moving the Darsteller2 in Video2. That's why you need a moving mask synonymous (Engl. traveling matte).
By keying can auto moving such masks can be generated. The decision criterion for the hidden part of what can be heard in various ways to be as color, brightness, contrast to another picture ...

Depending on the objective and the source material, you can do that in Vegas with a primitive mask with the cookie cutter, with an image shift with Track Motion, with a self-subscribed mask with Pan / Crop or with Chroma Keying make (maybe still synonymous with a differential -keying).
