And if want synonymous time lapse recordings can do with it

or pay attention to which option should be there to make sure before purchase that they can be synonymous?

losing the Firewire port would be absolute nonsense, because that is nunmal
the standard interface for transferring digital audio - and video data of a DV camcorder to a computer. As USB up long enough yet, not least because of compatibility.

... so take a camera actually [...] only really a frame or how many to? A DV camcorder would hardly be able to include only a single frame. During the interval function can be coherently incorporated more and more frames, which arises simply not true Time Lapse but a quick succession very short scenes.
Here it makes sense to use the camcorder just for image generation and dranzuhängen to a computer via Firewire, which makes the actual recording. Some capture tools allow the reading of every nth frame, so that the recorded video file is like a time lapse. The camcorder has an easy job here.
