There is no single answer, because it is very light conditions on the matter (concert is not the same concert). If you're mostly close-ups of the actors do, the less sense Spotlight mode. This is useful if a certain part of the image in the shade and the other is strongly illuminated (even Spotlight). Perhaps this is more what your camera fixed. With my XM2 I have good experience with the manual aperture made.

I've only experience with the PD 170, which is ne VX 2100 is upgraded.
That would be my settings (Everyone has his or her point of view):

Even the Spotlight feature in Canon, Canon is known for a very dark scene in the tape display overexposed, because it just such a lighting situations do not always cope well, no preference whether XM 2 or XL 1 - is Spotlight. Nobody wants grell / bright overexposed faces.
A SonyVX 2100 / PD 170 has no such problems, or if only very rarely.

The VX has a switch between auto and manual. This does not auto, the manual everything is set. You can still individually select whether White Balance, Aperture and Shutter manual regulated. The (auto) focus is always with another switch s.Lens controlled.

If no extra Directed man and there is more camera men on the ground there are a first cameraman, the camera people are instructed, which has an abbreviated name synonymous po?, Which comes but rarely well before geb ich zu.
Ich habs (despite turning Live Beginners PD 170) managed at the 3rd Concert of a festival that my cameraman 2 (stage - my trainers) in 45 min only 2-3 times in the picture appears. No, seriously: If we actually did something, then it was just 1st Camera But overall, our productions more "team-shaped" and over the intercom will (where possible and not interfere) a kind of regular entertainment.
