But how is it actually with miniDV tapes? How often you should be able to record the contents? And is it advisable to do so?

Quality loss is due to digital Aurfzeichnung not really possible. The only thing that has happened to me once after several record with one and the same cassette was that the timecode over again durcheinanderkam recorded somehow, and I had 2 scenes for several minutes, then mixed scrap. This probably came in short "Leerstücken" between 2 scenes, so as not to exact reverse. Then once the cassette has consistently Gray added (via DV-in) and then everything went. But aufnehemn more than 2-3 times, I would be synonymous on a cassette in which non-price!

When the tape, the coating is already full of holes, the data is written only partly on it and lost parts go, now on digital or not.

Have I thought synonymous in the early days of DV.
Then I took the oldest tapes and new movies on it backed up.
Today I have 5 tapes in use are successively recorded.
I need a new tape for backup, will be one taken away and put a new tape on the Fives.
Whether this can be done with all the tapes so I do not know
With PANASONIC AY-DVM63PQ the jedenfallls works perfectly.
My data cemetery has declined significantly (;-))

I have (for Comparison) a similar consumer s.DAT or minidisc's (for my music) and am always glad to be back on the old material. Granted rare but it happens.
Backups, you can never have enough.

Hard disks have become a strong competitor as a backup medium.
Min for 60th DV fall to approximately 13 GB.
Currently, a 300 GB hard drive will cost about 110 euros.

not entirely unjustified, the question of whether individual hard discs (ie no RAID systems with data redundancy) are truly the correct backup media.
