Frage von diggerbarnes:Hi folks,
have already searched with the search, but found nothing suitable.
To my question:
I missed my dad a new camera Pana NV-GS120.
He would, however, the camera does not always s.den Television connected to the movies to watch.
Well I think that a DVD recorder might be the right choice, by the way his old Beta and S-VHS tapes can also be burned to DVD.
As far as I could bring it into experience, this conversion brings a loss of quality dignity.
The questions were then:
-What is the quality loss?
-HDD recorder or not?
Equipment is recommended?
Thank you very much!

Basically DVD format (MPEG2 means always) a quality loss compared to DV format. Whether it is visible depends on the encoder (software or hardware DVD recorder just then), of his own sensitivity and quality performance, and very significantly synonymous of output device.
Should think: Who was satisfied with Hi8 and has enjoyed this s.55cm tube TV, you can certainly live with almost every well-moldy MPEG encoder. Who beamer with over 4 meters and rears with a magnifying glass sitting in front of the screen, is probably up to the Introduction of 4K-HD are not happy. ;-)
In general, the path has a DVD recorder, the simplest, but synonymous unkreativste way.
The other, in meinenAugen happier way would be to convert the analog camera in the analogue material in DV. depending on the camera you must add this, either on a cassette, or the signal kan looped directly into the computer. This material can then be programmed with a suitable editing or post-process, possibly the great-aunt who has always been disturbed in the Picture rausschneiden easy, and burn it to DVD.
Even if one does not yet have PC, then take the cost of a laptop / desktop and a simple editing software in Comparison to a DVD recorder is not so bad a lot. The road's just something creativer ....

Hi Kiara,
Many thanks for your reply.
It is eingentlich more about the DV tapes from camcorder to archive and somehow do not always connect the camera to have.
What is clear is the handling s.PC always the best thing that only my father is already 69 years, the explanation of the camera and DVD recorder will cost me already a few nerves and a lot of time to explain to a PC, "" would be for myself ne life's work ... so better not :-)

Otherwise, even with S-VHS would be no loss of quality. Theoretically, if the signal is very good analogy is applied and the hardware codec does its job well. The transformation is clearly better than analog copies another decade to store!
I've never been seriously interested in such devices, because if in doubt, I would rather build myself a media center PC running Linux, as are another consumer device in the living room closet.
But what I hear, the Panasonic will be very good ...
